...is the sudden-death overtime in a championship hockey game. I am referring, specifically, to the USA vs. Canada gold medal game that was just played an hour prior to me writing this! The USA beat Canada already in one of the preliminary games and they faced each other, once again, for the gold medal. The regulation time ended with a goal from Zach Parise of the USA, with 24 seconds left, to tie it up. A 20 minute overtime period was necessary and the rules state that the first team that scores, wins. Well, I think this is stupid. Canada got the goal and won, but there was plenty of time remaining in the OT period for the USA to get a goal and either win, or not get a goal and make the victory more decisive for Canada. The two teams played too brilliantly and equally for it to be decided this way...right? Oh yeah, you probably don’t care and haven’t even read this far.
